Tropical Storm Colin brings flooding to St. Pete Beach, Pass-A-Grille

Flooding in St. Pete Beach.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA)— In one St. Pete Beach neighborhood right in the shadow of Don Cesar Hotel off the Pinellas Bayway, water began to rise on Monday morning as Tropical Storm Colin’s rain came pouring down.

“When you have it (water) coming up through the storm drains this far away from the bay, that is a bit of an issue,” said resident Edward Rougerio.

While some of his neighbors left town before the storm hit, Rougerio decided to stay and wait it out with his paddleboard.

“It’s living in Florida and it’s annoying. When we have a high tide, it should not be flooding our streets like this,” exclaimed Rougerio.

Just down the street near Pass-A-Grille Beach, Pinellas County officials had to shut down portions of Gulf Boulevard while they tried to patch up the street because a road construction detour there was flooded out by the rain.

St. Pete Beach’s Mayor Maria Lowe was out there directing traffic for much of the day.

“There’s a price to pay for living in paradise and sometimes that’s Mother Nature…this is very normal for a barrier island at this time of year. We are in hurricane season, so we are glad to see this is just a tropical storm coming through,” said Lowe.
