LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman escaped from an armed carjacker who shot at her as she drove away Monday morning in Largo.

Largo police are investigating the frightening carjacking attempt. At about 12:37 a.m. a male with a shirt wrapped around his face approached a female who had just parked her car in front of a building at the Farrington Apartments located at 2738 Roosevelt Blvd.

Investigators say the male had a semi-automatic handgun and demanded the victim’s car and money. The victim put her car into reverse and backed away.

As she drove off, the subject fired a round, and a bullet hit the driver’s door trim, just below the window, deflecting it into the outside mirror. The suspect was last seen fleeing north and east from the complex.

Detectives are actively working the case and anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call Detective Arlington at the Largo Police Department (727) 587-6730; or anyone with information regarding this case, who wishes to remain anonymous and eligible for a cash reward, can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS or http://www.crimestoppersofpinellas.org.
