Garrison’s OT goal lifts Lightning to 2-1 win over Islanders

NEW YORK — Jason Garrison scored 1:34 into overtime to give the Tampa Bay Lightning a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday night and a 3-1 series lead.

Garrison took a pass from Andrej Sustr and fired a slap shot from the right faceoff circle past goalie Thomas Greiss to give the Lightning their second straight overtime win and move them one win away from reaching the conference finals for the second straight year.

Nikita Kucherov scored his NHL-leading eighth of the playoffs for Tampa Bay, and Ben Bishop made 27 saves.

Kucherov, who tied the score with 38.4 seconds left in regulation in Game 3 on Tuesday night, evened this one at 7:49 of the third. He took a pass from Tyler Johnson and fired a slap shot from the left faceoff dot past Greiss’ blocker.

Kyle Okposo scored early in the first period for the Islanders, and Greiss stopped 20 shots.

Game 5 of this best-of-seven series is Sunday in Tampa, Florida.

10:13 p.m. The Lightning score in overtime to beat the Islanders 2-1. The Bolts now have a 3-1 series lead.

Third period:

9:57 p.m. This is the 2nd straight overtime game for the Lightning. Regulation ends 1-1. Bishop made final-minute saves in both the 2nd and 3rd.

9:50 p.m. There was no penalty on Jason Garrison for high sticking.

9:30 p.m. The Lightning finally break through. It’s Nikita Kucherov’s 8th goal of the playoffs. The Lightning are tied at 1.

Second period:

8:53 p.m. The Lightning outshot the Isles 11-6 in the second period.

8:51 p.m. The Lightning are down 1-0 after two periods.

8:47 p.m. The Lightning start power play number 3. They started getting the puck on net in the previous shift.

8:36 p.m. The Lightning have another power play.

8:32 p.m.The Islaes Okposo gets another chance, this time the glove of Ben Bishop gobbles the puck.

8:25 p.m. The Lightning mustered 2 shots on the Isles backup goalie during a stint that lasted nearly 5 minutes.

8:22 p.m. Greiss is ready to return to game.

8:16 p.m. The Islanders’ Thomas Greiss leaves to fix his skate. The Bolts power play begins against backup goalie JF Berube.

8:12 p.m. The Lightning get their first chance on the power play. Cizikas goes off.

8:10 p.m. We’re back. The Lightning begin the second period down by 1.

First period:

7:51 p.m. Dominating 1st period by Isles. The Lightning weather the storm though down 1-0. Shots- NY 15 – TB 6

7:45 p.m. The Lightning are back on the PK for th Callahan penalty.

7:35 p.m. Turnover by the Lightning gives the Isles a 3 on 1 rush. How did they miss that?

7:31 p.m. Questionable situation with the puck at the Bolts’ net is reviewed. No goal for the Islanders.

7:17 p.m. The Islanders strike with :25 left on the power play. Okposo, robbed seconds earlier by Bishop gets set up in front.

7:15 p.m. Early power play for the Islanders after a brawl by the Bolts’ net.

7:10 p.m. The puck drops at the Barclays Center
