Bodies of two men recovered in Lake Manatee

LAKE MANATEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Two men were killed and one was rescued after a boating accident in Lake Manatee.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission received a call Saturday afternoon around 12:30 of three people in the water in the lake.

According to the accident report, when the canoe reached the center of the lake, waves breached the starboard beam causing the canoe to capsize.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office’s dive team recovered the bodies of two men. A third man was rescued by a Good Samaritan passing by in a boat.

According to the report, there was no safety equipment on board the canoe.

FWC and Manatee County Sheriff’s Office are investigating.
