Bob Evans closing 27 underperforming restaurants

NEW ALBANY, OH (WCMH) — Bob Evans Farms, Inc. is closing 27 of its Bob Evans Restaurants it says are underperforming.

“Decisions to close restaurant locations are always difficult. Performance at each of these locations, despite the loyalty of valued guests and the efforts of our dedicated employees, was not meeting expectations,” said President and CEO Saed Mohseni.

Twenty-one of the restaurants closed over the weekend, including two in Ohio. The remaining leased locations are expected to close by 2017.

“Employees impacted by closures have been offered positions in nearby restaurants where possible,” Mohseni said. “In cases where relocation is not possible, severance benefits will be offered to full-time and part-time employees.”

The company says it expects the closure of these select restaurants will improve annual operating income by $1 million.
