5 arrested for exposure in undercover sting at beach, park

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – Undercover detectives arrested five men for public exposure after an operation at a park and a beach in Venice.

The sting took place last week at Caspersen Beach at 4100 Harbor Dr. and Jelks Preserve, located at 2300 River Rd. Local residents complained about indecent activity in the area. They told Sarasota County Sheriff’s detectives that several suspects would offer sexual favors and expose their genitals at the parks.

Undercover detectives worked to apprehend the suspects. They arrested five men in two days.

The oldest man arrested was Roger Johnson, 84. When he was being taken into custody, he uttered that he had a bad feeling that day and that he should stop coming out to the beach for “this.”

Another suspect who got arrested during the sting was a 76-year-old funeral home employee. His name was Herbert Sharp. When the undercover officer asked him what he wanted to do he said, “Play with our toys.” He was arrested soon after saying that.

All five men were taken to the Sarasota County jail on the charge of Exposure of Sexual Organs, a misdemeanor charge with $500 bond.
