Police: Haines City robbery suspect crashes vehicle, faces charges

HAINES CITY, FL (WFLA) – Haines City Police say a robbery suspect who got away from them late Friday night, later crashed and is now facing several charges.

Police say around 9:30 p.m. Friday, the Sunoco Gas Station located at 35855 US Highway 27 was robbed. According to Haines City Police, a suspect, who they identified as 42-year-old Clemente Gandy, brandished a gun at the employee and patrons while demanding money from the registers. He then ran from the store.

Authorities say Polk Sheriff’s deputies spotted a beige 1995 Chevy S10 pickup truck on Highway 17/92 corridor which fled from them, but crashed in the area of Ronald Regan Parkway and Hwy 547.

Police say the suspect was taken to Osceola Medical Center for injuries from the vehicle crash. This is believed to be the seventh in a series of robberies in Haines City and Osceola County, according to HCPD.

Clemente Gandy is charged with the following, according to HCPD: Armed robbery, three counts of Aggravated assault, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. They say more charges are pending.
