TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Galvanized steel gates were installed near Ben T. Davis Beach as an attempt to curb racing and late night gatherings.

The Florida Department of Transportation installed the gates at the request of the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County, and the City of Tampa. The gates are set at the access points to the parking areas and secondary roadways near the beach along the Courtney Campbell Causeway.

The purpose of the gates is to help eliminate late-night congregations and racing along the road. According to TPD, this is a continuing safety concern for Tampa’s residents and guests.

The gates will be locked between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m.

Do you think the gates will help with the safety issues? Vote in the poll above and go to our Facebook page to sound off.
