PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla.  (WFLA) – A road rage victim is sharing his story exclusively with News Channel 8. The victim is speaking out after a similar case, on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, gained attention.

The victim’s case was similar – and brutal. It led to pain and injuries. News Channel 8 is not identifying the victim.

He was driving home from work last month on East Bay Drive when, all of a sudden, he found himself surrounded by at least six motorcyclists.

The viral video of a similar incident forced the victim to relieve his nightmare all over gain. The video is so tough to watch, he told News Channel 8, that his wife can’t bear to view it.

“And I’m just thinking, seriously thinking, the whole time, ‘I hope I live through this,’” he told us, recalling how his life flashed in front of his eyes as the motorcyclists beat him up.

He told News Channel 8 in the wake of the road rage incident caught on camera on the Courtney Campbell Causeway, it’s happening more than we think.

Victim tells News Channel 8 what happened to him

“Just like you saw in the Courtney Campbell video, another motorcyclist punches the side of my truck,” the victim remembered. “He cuts in front of me. He slams his breaks on. I swerve to avoid him.”

That’s when six to eight other motorcyclists surrounded him. He said he didn’t provoke the motorcyclists.

“Other than just put my hands in the air (to ask), ‘Why are you doing this?'” he recalled.

That’s when he told us they forced him to the side of the road and started beating them.

“You know, they got me out of the truck,” the victim said. “One guy punches me from the side and the face. Another guy kicks me in the mouth. I took at least 20 shots to the back of the head.”

In the end, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Robert Osborne, of Wesley Chapel, on an outstanding warrant – not for any role he may have played in the brutal beating. Osborne could face a battery charge. The case is now in the hands of the State Attorney’s Office.

“I’m a little upset that look at my face, here’s the guy, why aren’t you doing something?” the victim said, showing News Channel 8 a picture of the black eye he sustained in the incident.

Incident hits a nerve

When he watched the Courtney Campbell incident the victim thought everything looked familiar. “I thought that’s exactly what happened to me. These guys look really familiar,” he said.

He told News Channel 8 it’s that mix of adrenaline and the need for speed that makes some motorcyclists feel they own the road. He believes law enforcement needs to crack down.

“If you’re not going to be punished, you think, ‘I can just keep going,’ and they’re just going to keep pushing the limits,” he said.

The victim hopes the next incident doesn’t turn deadly. Meanwhile, he feels lucky.

“I get to live and see my family,” he said with a smile that lit up his face.

He also made clear he doesn’t hate motorcyclists. In fact, he tells us he’s been riding a motorcycle since he was 4 years old.
