ALBANY, NY (WCMH) –U.S. Marshals have issued a nationwide alert for a man with ties to Florida who is accused of raping a woman in a wheelchair.

According to U.S. Marshalls, the victim, a woman in a wheelchair who suffers from mental disabilities, was raped by 29-year-old Michael Hawkins in her home in Schenectady, NY, while her family members slept, June 10, 2012.

The victim reported the crime and a warrant was issued for Hawkins’ arrest. But he remained undetected by the authorities until about a year later when he raped again.

Then on Nov. 8, 2013, Hawkins allegedly raped the wife of a friend who had invited him to a family gathering in Rotterdam, NY. Marshals continue to search for Hawkins and say he has personal ties to New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Oregon, California and Florida, but he could be anywhere.

“Predators like Michael Hawkins who prey on helpless victims must be brought to justice,” said U.S. Marshal David McNulty of the Northern District of New York. “We, along with our federal, state and local law enforcement partners, are determined to make sure he’s held accountable, but we need the public’s help.”

Hawkins is also known as “Zombie Mike” by his friends because of his poor hygiene and according to Marshals, can hide anywhere because of his ability to survive off scraps.

Marshals also warn that Hawkins has been employed in the past with traveling carnival companies and could be with similar companies from Ohio, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and other states along the east coast.

Hawkins is described as a 5’9” white male and weighing approximately 160 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. His unique physical characteristics include a one and half inch scar on his face, a burn mark scar on his right arm, and a chest tattoo of the Grim Reaper. According to friends, he is known to have a temper and abuse alcohol.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading directly to Hawkins’ arrest. Anyone with information can contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office or the U.S. Marshals Service Communications Center at 1-800-336-0102, or email:usms.wanted@usdoj.gov.
