According to the Walton and Holmes County Sheriff’s Offices, Michael Andrew Rotunno, 30, and James Thomas Banks, 28, were on a U.S. Corrections LLC van, a company which provides prisoner transport services.

The company contacted the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office around 4:30 a.m. from the Leon County Jail. The company told Sheriff’s officials they stopped at the Walton County Jail at 1:30 a.m. and everyone was accounted for.

They say they were driving on I-10 heading towards Leon County when they noticed the inmates were missing. Other inmates said Rotunno and Banks jumped out of the van shortly after leaving the Walton County Jail.

Banks wears a beard, and he was last seen wearing a dark blue or purple muscle shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. He now wears his hair differently than it appears in his mugshot; security footage shows he is bald. His warrants include unarmed robbery, escape from a felony jail, violation of probation and escape.

Rotunno was last seen wearing a light blue striped button-down shirt, jeans and brown leather shoes. He has a scar on his left hand between the webbing and has a bandage on his arm. His warrants are for larceny.

Rotunno was being taken from Longview, Texas and Banks was being take from Orange County, California. Both were set to make their way to Jackson, Minnesota.

Additional resources officers are being posted at nearby schools in Holmes County Monday morning.

Citizens in Walton, Holmes, Washington, Calhoun, Jackson, Gadsden and Leon Counties are asked to be on especially high alert, as it is not clear in which county they escaped.

If you see these men, call 911 immediately and do not approach them.
