Study: Splenda linked to leukemia, tumors

ENGLAND (WCMH)– A new study says that Splenda, which is used in more than 4,500 foods and beverages, has caused cancerous tumors and leukemia in mice.

According to KFOR, the independent Italian study was printed in the International Journal of Occupational and Environmental Health and showed that mice who were given mass amounts of sucralose throughout their lives, developed leukemia and cancerous tumors.

Now, the Center for Science in the Public Interest has added Splenda, the brand name for sucralose, to the list of artificial sweeteners for people to avoid.

According to WKMG, unlike most studies into food additives, this case was funded without special interests.

Lisa Lefferts, senior scientist at the CSPI warns that even though the study included a large amount of consumption in the case, even a small amount could be hazardous.

“When something causes cancer at high doses, it generally causes cancer at lower doses, the risk is just smaller,” Lefferts told Eatclean.com.
