One dead after boat capsizes on Plant City pond

PLANT CITY, FL (WFLA) – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating a boating mishap on Saturday that resulted in the drowning of a person in Plant City.

Plant City Police Department officers responded to a pond near private property located on the 1700th block of Turkey Creek Road at 5:54 p.m. Saturday after receiving a call about a small capsized boat with two males on board.

Responding officers determined that the boat capsized about 50 feet from the shore. One of the boaters was able to swim to shore and alerted nearby homeowner to call the police. Officers learned that the second boater tried to swim to safety, but was unable to do so.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office launched an aerial search and a dive team who discovered the body of the second boater a short time later. Police say the boater drowned.

The boaters have been identified as 28 year old Antonio Lopez of Plant City, who was uninjured. The deceased is 21 year old Jose Perez-Bravo, also of Plant City.
