Polk school board to select interim Superintendent

POLK COUNTY, FL (WFLA) — The Polk County School Board will start the search for a new superintendent Tuesday afternoon.

According to the workshop agenda, the board will discuss the process at 1:15 p.m. Later in the board meeting at 5 p.m., members will vote on making Jacqueline Byrd, former Deputy and current Acting Superintendent, the interim Superintendent.

This all comes after former Superintendent, Kathryn LeRoy, resigned following allegations she sexually harassed a subordinate.

LeRoy was cleared of any illegal wrongdoing by a firm hired to investigate complaints.

LeRoy will get $119,800 in severance pay, in addition to another $113,517 in annuity payment, all of her paid leave and attorney fees paid for by the district.
