Cops: Wrong-way DUI driver had booze in cup holder

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A driver was pulled over and arrested for going the wrong way on Interstate 75 with an open alcoholic beverage in the cup holder. He was going about 30 miles an hour, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

It happened on I-75 in Hillsborough County at about 2 a.m. Friday. HCSO deputy saw a black Dodge Avenger slowly going south in the northbound lanes on the interstate. The driver then made an “improper and unsafe” u-turn and continued going north at about 30 miles an hour, according to HCSO.

The deputy pulled over the Dodge. The driver showed signs of impairment and the deputy noticed an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the cup holder. The deputy conducted a field sobriety test, but the driver identified as Kenneth Wishop, 51, refused to provide a breath sample.

Wishop, of Jacksonville, was taken to the Hillsborough County jail on DUI charges.
