Transgender bathroom policy in Sarasota schools up for debate

Pine View School created a transgender bathroom policy after receiving a request from a student.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – School board members and district leaders in Sarasota will discuss a number of controversial topics at a workshop Tuesday morning. Among them, a policy allowing transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice.

Earlier this year, Pine View School student Nathan Quinn asked to use the boy’s bathroom at that school. He recently underwent a transition.

At first it was denied, then allowed by the principal.

A message later went to parents informing them about change. Supporters of the bathroom proposal plan to attend the meeting at school district headquarters. The meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at school district headquarters.
