The crash happened on Ulmerton Road near Carillon Parkway around 3:30 a.m. Monday, leaving a Ford F150 pickup truck mangled after it collided with a traffic signal pole on the side of the road. According to FHP, the truck was speeding down the road, causing the driver to lose control.

Troopers say evidence on scene shows that a second vehicle may have been involved in illegal street racing with the vehicle involved in the crash.

Anyone with information on the second vehicle involved is asked to call FHP at 813-631-4020.

The driver of the Ford F150 is 27-year-old Dustin Fowler of Dyersburg, Tenn. He is currently in critical condition at Bayfront Health Center. It is unknown whether he was wearing a seatbelt or if alcohol was involved in the crash. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
