Manatee deputy placed on administrative leave following fatal shooting

BRADENTON, FL (WFLA) – A Manatee County Sheriff’s deputy is on administrative leave after fatally shooting a suspect Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 5 p.m. deputies from Manatee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance on Bookelia Circle in Bradenton.

Donna Stoddart reported that her husband, Marc Stoddart, had been drinking. She said he was armed with a knife and was threatening to harm her and himself.

When deputies arrived, Marc Stoddart was outside and armed with a knife. His wife was able to escape the home.

Manatee deputies told Marc Stoddart several times to drop the knife. He refused and came at the deputy, who is not being named at this time, in a threatening manner, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy was forced to fatally shoot the suspect.

At this time, the deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
