Boy, 2, in critical condition after nearly drowning in Clearwater

CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) – A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa after nearly drowning in Clearwater on Sunday morning.

Family members found the boy floating in a backyard pool face down and tried to resuscitate him before Clearwater Fire and Rescue and Clearwater Police arrived at the scene around 10:30 am.

Emergency responders were able to maintain his heartbeat before taking him to Mease Countryside Hospital.

He was later airlifted from Mease to St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Clearwater authorities are still investigating the events leading up to the incident, as family members believed the child was in the pool for no more than a few minutes.
