Thieves caught on camera stealing truck worth $76K from Sarasota dealership

SARASOTA, FL (WFLA) – A pair of criminals committed a pretty brazen crime – they drove a flatbed into a Sarasota car dealership and stole an expensive truck right off the lot. And it was all in front of surveillance cameras. But now police need your help to find them.

In the early morning hours of Jan. 30, surveillance cameras were rolling as a white flatbed drove toward the Sarasota Ford dealership off U.S. 301.

The flatbed went to the back and made a bee-line toward a ford F450 worth $76,000. The truck was the most expensive vehicle on the lot that night. The video shows the two crooks load the expensive truck onto their flatbed, without making a scene, as if they belonged there. Then the pair casually drove away.

Sarasota police spokesperson Genevieve Judge said, “They knew what they were doing, in and out in less than 5 minutes.”

Dealership officials did not realize the theft until the next day. Police say the business owners did everything they could to protect themselves, and yet these crooks still succeeded. An official at the dealership told News Channel 8 over the past 20 years there’ve had a few thefts from the lot, but none of them were ever caught on camera, and none were so elaborate.

Judge, said, “We don’t know where that truck could be, we’re not sure if it’s still in town or if it was taken out of town, maybe to the east coast, or maybe out of state.”

Dealership officials tell us the thieves could also make a hefty profit selling the truck for parts.

So police need your help – if you recognize this truck or these two criminals call the authorities and turn them in.
