ST PETERSBURG, FL (WFLA) – The 2016 St. Petersburg Grand Prix is scheduled to begin two weeks earlier than usual because of the Easter holiday.
The Grand Prix will be held on March 11 to 13, with the Verizon IndyCar Series headlining the weekend.
Now in its 12th year, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is run on a 1.8-mile, 14-turn waterfront circuit that includes a combination of adjacent downtown streets circling Pioneer Park, the Duke Energy Center for the Arts, The Dali Museum and extending onto the runways at Albert Whitted Airport, which overlook the Tampa Bay and picturesque St. Petersburg Harbor and Marina.
Drivers and pedestrians in St. Pete can expect road closures and detours. The exact road closures have not yet been announced, but in the past the following roads have been closed for the course.
Bayshore Drive from First Ave. South to the Albert Whitted Park (this stretch includes Dali Blvd),
Beach Drive from Central to First Ave. South and First Street from First Ave. South to Fifth Ave. South.
Albert Whitted Park has also been closed to motorized and pedestrian traffic in the past. The Mahaffey Theater, Dali Museum, Al Lang Stadium, Albert Whitted Airport have remained open.
