FWC searching for missing couple in Lake Okeechobee

LAKE OKEECHOBEE, FL (WFLA) – The Florida Wildlife Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard of Miami are searching for a couple who went missing while boating at Lake Okeechobee on Saturday evening.

Married couple John Russ, 72, and Diane Russ, 62, of Myakka City went missing around 7 p.m. on Saturday after being separated from friends on a separate boat in the lake.

“The couple were in an airboat when they were separated after a storm passed through,” said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Mark Barney.

The FWC is currently searching by boat while U.S. Coast Guard crews from Clearwater initially helped search for the couple by air. According to WPTV, USCG canceled the search by about noon. There is no information on whether or not the couple has been located.
