LAKE WALES, Fla. (WFLA) – Four women are charged with felony retail theft after, police say, they stole more than $3,200 worth of Victoria’s Secret merchandise. Surveillance cameras caught the crime.
Thieves hit the famous lingerie store Friday just before 9 p.m.
In the surveillance video, suspects Cyntoria White, 26; Donetta Hester, 20; Kiana Thomas, 18; and Patkia Tukes, 22; are seen taking clothing from the Victoria’s Secret in Eagle Ridge Mall in Lake Wales.
When the four suspects entered the mall, they left a Blue 2014 Volvo XC60 running in the parking lot, according to the Lake Wales Police Department. The women went to the PINK clothing and selected random outfits, police said.
Store employees were in the back of the store preparing to close.
Within about three minutes, the four women had their arms full of clothing and fled the store, police said. A mall employee and a former Victoria’s Secret employee saw the women leaving and tracked down the current employees.
The suspects managed to leave the mall, but a Lake Hamilton police officer spotted their vehicle on Highway 27 at a gas station. When the women saw the police vehicle, three of them took off on foot. They were later caught and taken to the Polk County Jail.
Cyntoria White has an active warrant in Orange County for retail theft, police said. Tukes is on probation for fleeing to elude and retail theft, according to police.
Detectives told News Channel 8 all four women are from Orlando.
Victoria’s Secret customers are also shocked after watching the video.
“Theft can happen anywhere,” Danielle Mattie said. “I mean you could just be distracted for 30 seconds and someone can swipe something.”
Classic Home Décor manager Pamela Kay said she’s frustrated. Kay is outraged that the four would be so bold. She knows the feeling all too well as her store has been robbed several times.
“What can be done about it?” Kay asked. “It takes a while to notice some of the small things are gone.”
She also said more needs to be done about security. “I mean, is there any security system put in place?” Kay asked. “How many other people care or would like to say or see something done about it?”
Victoria’s Secret staff say more security guards have been placed outside the store.
A similar incident was reported last week. It’s not clear if the women arrested in this case could be related to the previous theft.
