Bucs’ Koetter introduced as HC

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Dirk Koetter took the stage at One Buc Place as the team head coach for the first time Friday afternoon.

Koetter was introduced by General Manager Jason Licht and co-chairman Joel Glazer.

“We collectively believe Dirk Koetter is the man to lead this team forward,” Glazer said.

Licht added that they wanted somebody who would establish a winning culture in the team.

Dirk Koetter started his emotional speech saying that this was the happiest day of his life. He fought back tears, thanking his mother and father. He said that this team is headed in the right direction and that he is ready for the challenge.

Coach Koetter will retain his play-calling duties and will also keep most of the offensive staff. He also announced that Mike Smith had been hired as his defensive coordinator.

“I’d never seen anybody like Mike Smith before,” he said. “I couldn’t be happier.”

He explained that he intends to be himself as head coach.

“I am a little tougher than I’ve come across today,” he said.

He ended his speech saying that he is ready for what comes next and this is where he wants to be.

“I am a football coach,” Koetter said.
