Clearwater homeowner shoots intruder

the case remains under investigation

Pinellas County, Fla (WFLA)  – Pinellas County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a shooting where a homeowner shot and injured an intruder.  It happened on Sunday afte- rnoon at a home on Whitney Drive in unincorporated Clearwater.  Investigators say the homeowner confronted the intruder asking him to leave.  When the intruder lunged at the homeowner, he shot him.

A street sign in front of the home reads Nundy Avenue.  Neighbors and property records confirm the homeowner is Wayne Nundy, a former marine, who is now retired.  Suzanne Halsted lives across the street and believes Nundy did the right thing.  “I think he did a great job.  I commend him.  I really do.  I think he did a great job.”  Said Halsted, pointing at Nundy’s home.  “I’m so grateful that he protected his family and protected his neighbors. ”

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement saying the intruder was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, but authorities have yet to release his name.
