DEKALB, GA — A hostage situation is over after a woman and 11 children were being held by a man armed with a knife at a motel in DeKalb County, Georgia early Tuesday morning, according to NBC affiliate WXIA.

The stand-off ended when the suspect stabbed himself in the neck. The children and woman are safe.

Police later identified him as Korrie Thomas, 36, and said he is facing charges of false imprisonment and obstruction.

Police say a stand-off started after a domestic dispute call came in around 2 a.m. DeKalb police say the woman inside the motel made the 911 call for unknown reasons. The children range in age from 3-months to 17-years old.

The suspect is being transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The SWAT team was on scene negotiating with the suspect, WXIA says. The stand-off ended around 7:30 a.m. Police said the safety of the children is their main concern.

The motel is the Rite For Us Inn and Suites located at 4300 Snapfinger Woods Drive, just outside of Atlanta.
