WINTER HAVEN, FL (WFLA) – A 14-year-old boy is in jail after he carjacked a 16-year-old girl at gunpoint in Winter Haven, according to Winter Haven Police.

It happened at the 3 Brothers Mart convenience store located at 223 Ave T NE Friday. The victim parked her car and went to the convenience store. After she came back and got into the car, somebody knocked at the window. The suspect showed her a handgun and then pulled her out of the car, according to the Winter Haven PD arrest affidavit.

Another man got into the car with him and they drove off. The victim went back into the store and called police.

An officer on patrol saw the car the next day and tried to pull it over but the driver fled. After a high-speed pursuit, the driver crashed the car into a tree. Officers took him into custody.

Post Miranda, the suspect told the detectives that he had taken the car because he needed a ride. He said he knew it was wrong but said that “Sometimes I don’t be thinking,” according to the affidavit. But he denied having a partner or a handgun, officers said.

He is at the Polk County jail.
