TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Everyone has a different way to ring in the new year, right?

Well, one Riverview family decided to do it a little differently this year.

At exactly 36 seconds after midnight, Jade Ynoa, 23, gave birth to her first daughter Jaylynn Anjali Gopie.

Jaylynn weighed in at 7 pounds and 8 ounces and 20 ½ inches long.

But this wasn’t just any birth. Jaylynn was the first baby born this year at Tampa General Hospital.

“Oh wow,” said Jade. “It all began with lots of contractions,” as she and her husband Jason Gobie laughed.

It would take 18 hours for Jaylynn to make her debut.

News Channel 8 asked Jade what it was like to hold her first baby?

“Oh my goodness,” she said. “It’s like overwhelming.” Adding, “I feel like I’m in a dream. I can’t believe I had her. Yeah, it’s surreal.”

Dad seconded that saying, “Yeah, it’s very surreal.”

For them, having the first baby of the year at TGH wasn’t really on their minds yesterday.

“I was really concerned with her,” said Jade. “I really wasn’t watching the time. I wasn’t competing. I was just pushing. I was so ready to have her out. I just wanted her to be here.”

But after they got some down time and found out that Jaylynn was the first?

“I was shocked,” Jade said. “I was not expecting that at all.”

“When I seen her, I was just full of joy,” said dad Jason. “Crying, yeah.”

Even less than a day old, little Jaylynn has already learned how to get everyone’s attention.

As mom started saying that she had went through a lot, midwife Tammara Taylor took the baby and patted her back saying she was spitting up a little and said quietly and soothingly “let’s just get that out. There you go.”

For these 23-year-old, first-time parents, they want what many parents want.

“I want her to get all the best things out of life,” said Jade. “Some things we never got to do in life. I know when she grows up she’s going to look back on this and be like, wow, I can’t believe I was the first baby of 2016.”

News Channel 8 asked the couple if it was their best New Year’s present ever?

“Yeah,” Jade said. “Most definitely. Best present. I couldn’t spend my New Year’s any other way.”

Tampa General Hospital had another baby born within two minutes after midnight.
