ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg Police say they are making progress in the investigation into a string of 7 murders that have happened in the city over an eight week period.
Detectives arrested Bruce Sanders, 24 of 55 Terrace South, St. Petersburg on Wednesday night.
Sanders is charged with second-degree muder in the shooting death of Aaron Davis at the Fountain Court Apartments at 600 40th Street North in St. Petersburg.
Police believe an earlier argument and fight led to the shooting of Davis.
“Heard em arguing, the next thing I know when I was getting ready to go in my house I heard three shots, I definitely ran in. My son was scared. I was scared. It was crazy,” said Norris Watson who lives at the apartment complex.
Police say several witnesses came forward and helped identify Sanders as the suspect.
“I figured maybe somebody would say something that seen it first hand, because I look at it like this, that could have been my son or anybody that got killed and I want somebody to be able to tell what happened or what went on,” said Watson.
Police have now made arrests in four of the murder cases and issued an arrest warrant in a fifth case.
“We feel very good about the progress we’ve made. Certainly we don’t like to see things like this happen but at the very least we want to get justice for the families and I think we are accomplishing that, ” said Mike Puetz with the St. Petersburg Police Department.
