Companies offer ways to get home safe on New Year’s Eve

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – As Bay Area residents get ready to say goodbye to 2015 and ring in 2016, local law enforcement agencies are warning them to stay off the streets if they’ve had too much to drink.

So-called “DUI Wolfpacks” will hit the roads beginning at 4:00 p.m. Thursday. They plan to weed out drunk drivers.

There are various ways for revelers to get home safe and sound. AAA offers its “Tow To Go” service through Saturday. A tow truck will give you and your car a lift within a 10 mile radius. The phone number is (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.

Ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft will be available, but prices may be higher than normal if usage is up.

This New Year’s Eve, Uber is partnering with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to raise awareness. Each time the Uber app is downloaded, Uber will donate $5 to MADD, the company said.

The Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority is expanding streetcar service Thursday night. Revelers can ride free from 7:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Friday morning. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
