CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — It doesn’t take long to find “Hoverboard Fail” videos on the internet.
Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson is seen in one video taking a hard fall indoors. U.S. Representative Carlos Curbelo posted an online photo of himself in an arm sling after falling off a hoverboard.
Some of the videos are amusing, but for Scott Read, of Clearwater, a hoverboard injury is no joke.
“No, it’s not. It’s been a long road to recovery and been out of work for over two months now, so that’s even harder to swallow,” said Read.
He fell off a hoverboard during his first ride.
“When the board decided to go left and I went backwards, it snapped my knee pretty bad,” said Read.
Doctors had to perform surgery on his leg, inserting a plate and 14 screws to put him back together.
Read says his medical bills totaled over $110,000.
“I think there should be a little more of a warning on them people treat them like toys and they can really cause serious injury,” said Read.
