PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – Temperatures in Pinellas County got up in the low 80’s today but that didn’t stop children from making snowballs at Great Explorations Children’s Museum’s winter camp.
“This here is fake snow. We make it out of a polymer which is sandy and gritty. We add water to it. It’s very absorbent. It’s the kind of thing they put in baby’s diapers,” said Great Explorations Children’s Museum’s Micah Madir.
Madir showed a class room of about ten students how pouring a little bit of water over about a tablespoon of Insta-snow powder would expand the white pile all over the tray and create what appeared to be snow.
“It gets up to 700 times its size and this little bottle can make up to 3 gallons,” Madir said as he spread the powder out for children to use.
After the students got to experiment with the snow the whole class had a snowball fight right in the middle of the room using white plush balls made out to look like snowballs.
