TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)– A group of Christmas grinches stole thousands of dollars of tools and equipment from a Tampa Baptist church on Christmas Day.
Southside Baptist Church is in the process of building a new auditorium to meet the needs of their growing parish.
On Christmas night, a trailer parked inside the new building had the lock cut off and more than $5,000 worth of tools were stolen from it.
People who are volunteering to build the new auditorium are in disbelief.
“I believe they picked Christmas because they knew nobody would be here. Most people don’t work on Christmas on this type of a project, so they picked that day because they knew they would be in and out without any disturbance,” said John Foster.
The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating the crime.
Since Christmas, parishioners have raised about $2,000 to help replace the equipment.
Southside Baptist Church has created a donation fund to help buy more tools. Learn more here.
