TAMPA, FL (WFL) – You might think people would be sick of shopping by the time the day after Christmas rolls around, think again. According to an American Express survey, 66 percent of people will hit the stores Dec. 26, that’s up from 45 percent on Black Friday. WestShore Plaza started off slow but steadied with traffic throughout the late morning.
“It looks like there are a lot of people here,” Shauna Humphrey said. “I hope I can just get in and get out. I’m getting married tomorrow and just have to pick up a few extra things.”
Humphrey was in the minority though. Most people we found were either returning, spending gift cards, or cashing in on post-Christmas sales. Peter Hall’s family didn’t waste any time using the gift cards they just got.
“This time is like down time because my sons are very active and right now they don’t have sports,” Hall said. “So any time we can get in the car and move is good for us.”
If your family wasn’t paying attention to you on Christmas Day, they might have been online shopping. Early reports predict consumers spent $600 million online Dec 25. That’s $50 more than last year.
