Pasco sheriff warns about possible danger of offering money to panhandlers

HUDSON, Fla. (WFLA) – The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is warning people to be cautious when stopping your car to offer money to panhandlers, after a man was accused of stealing a female victim’s credit cards and cash.

Investigators with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office say David Blum, age 35, was recently panhandling at the intersection of US 19 and Beacon Woods Drive in Hudson.

The victim was was stopped in her vehicle at the intersection and offered to give Blum $5.

Investigators say Blum approached the car, leaned into the window and removed the victim’s credit cards and cash from the center console of her vehicle. Blum ran off, but was located at a homeless camp after the incident.

Deputies arrested Blum and charged him with burglary of an occupied vehicle.
