2 taken to hospital after fire at assisted living facility

CEDAR HAMMOCK, FL (WFLA) – A fire damaged an assisted living facility leaving two people injured early Sunday morning, according to the Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue.

When the firefighters responded to a report of a fire at the Windsor Oaks facility located at 2614 43rd Street West, they found the facility staffers evacuating the building. One resident was badly burned and was immediately taken to a hospital. A facility staffer suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital too.

The sprinkler system had put out the fire before the fire crews arrived. Firefighters cleared the building and started ventilating smoke from the structure.

Fire officials said that “Windsor Oaks staff did a great job of keeping an accurate count of patients. They had everyone accounted for and evacuated before first responders arrived.”

The fire is under investigation by the Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue Fire Prevention Bureau and The States Fire Marshals office.
