Child Protective Services staffers went to check on the children Thursday at a residence in the 500 block of 77th St. E. in Palmetto, but were told by the father they were with the mother out of state.

Repeated attempts to verify the information have been unsuccessful. The father is David Wayne Whitley and the mother is Amanda Gates.

According to MCSO, the children were located in Battleboro, NC. They were with their parents. The children were taken into protective custody pending further investigation. No criminal charges have been filed
