Former board chairman sues MOSI, claims it misused $1.4 million donation

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – The former chairman of the Museum of Science and Industry board of directors is suing the museum, claiming it misused his $1.4 million donation.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Robert Lang filed the civil lawsuit Wednesday.

Lang made the donation in 2004 to name a museum wing after his wife. He says the wing was supposed to house and facilitate operations for early childhood learning programs.

In the lawsuit, Lang says the museum never moved the activities into the Whitney Andrews Lang Center for Learning. Lang’s attorney says the museum has also used the funding for payroll and other operating expenses, violating the terms of the donation.

Museum spokeswoman Shannon Herbon could not comment to the newspaper because the museum had not yet been served. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
