Police say Arkansas gunman had shotgun, gasoline, propane

JONESBORO, Ark. – Police say a gunman who drove a truck onto a plaza near the Arkansas State University student union was armed with a shotgun and carried containers of gasoline and propane.

The campus sounded an alarm that made students scurry, but the Jonesboro police chief said it seemed Brad Bartelt posed a greater threat to himself during Thursday’s incident. At one point, he sloshed gasoline on his truck.

Jonesboro Police said they had received a call Wednesday about a Facebook post Bartlet wrote in which he stated he was homicidal and suicidal and referred to an incident with the Social Security Administration.

School and police officials said Bartelt had attended an ASU branch campus at Newport. An Associated Press story from 2012 shows that a student named Brad Bartelt was injured in a truck-driving school accident at Newport that year.
