SCHENECTADY, NY (WFLA) — A call has been put out on Facebook to help a little girl in upstate New York have a great Christmas.

Family and supporters of 8-year-old Sa’fyre Terry, of Schenectady, New York, hope people can help fill her “card tree” by sending her some holiday cheer by mail.

Sa’fyre is the survivor of a 2013 fire that took the lives of her father and her three siblings; 33-year-old David Terry, 3-year-old Layah, 2-year-old Michael, and 11-month-old Donavan. The fire was ruled an arson.

Crews responding to the fire found Sa’fyre with her father’s arms wrapped around the then 5-year-old girl in attempt to shield her from the heat and smoke. Her head was tucked inside her father’s chest, which may have kept her from breathing in the deadly fumes, fire fighters believed.

Sa’fyre was badly burned and remained in critical condition for a number of days following the incident.

The case remains opens, and the person responsible for setting the fire remains at large.

Sa’fyre now lives with her aunt, her father’s sister.
