LUTZ, FL (WFLA) – It was the first Black Friday for the new Tampa Premium Outlet mall in Lutz. And shoppers, some who normally drive out of town to shop at outlet malls, were thrilled to have one closer to home.
“We’re just grabbing up all the bargains and having a great time,” said Carol Woods.
Shoppers reported lots of deals and carried out armfuls of bags.
“We went to Gap, went to the Disney store,” said Jennifer Nichols. “They said it was the most money anybody spent in the whole store, all day.”
Crowds were thin during the early morning shopping hours. That’s partly because the mall opened at 6 p.m.Thanksgiving night, and die-hard Black Friday shoppers shopped through the night and moved on.
That was welcomed news for shoppers like Andy Johnson. He wanted the deals but feared Black Friday madness. He was thrilled to find deals and no lines.
“I don’t know what’s going on, if it’s more of a cyber thing, but I really enjoyed not having to fight with people and say excuse me and stuff like that,” Johnson said. “it has been really, really nice to be shopping in a more relaxed atmosphere.”
