Metropolitan Ministries to serve thousands this Thanksgiving

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) — Metropolitan Ministries is hard at work, preparing Thanksgiving meals for more than 7,600 people Thursday morning.

Staff arrived at 3 a.m. and volunteers arrived at 6 a.m. to cook and assemble the meals.

On the menu is turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls, cranberry sauce and, of course, lots of pie.


Staff has been preparing the food since Sunday and fired up the oven before the sun came up.

Homeless families will enjoy 2,000 pounds of turkey 3,200 pounds of mashed potatoes, 90 gallons of gravy, 2,500 pounds of vegetables, and 700 pies.

Meals will be served at the main campus at 2002 N. Florida Ave. at 10:30 a.m. And at 11 a.m. at the Metropolitan ministries tent nearby on Florida Avenue.
