Police make arrest in case of man found murdered in Clearwater park

CLEARWATER, FL (WFLA) — Clearwater police on Friday arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a man whose body was found in a park across the street from a school.

Raul Santos Quinones, who police described as a transient, was charged with first-degree murder. Detectives say the 48-year-old victim, who was not identified, was also a transient who was involved in a dispute with Quinones.

The victim’s body was found in the parking lot of Glen Oaks Park which located at 1345 Court Street in Clearwater.

Police responded after getting a call at 12:21 a.m. Friday morning from a passerby who found a man dead, with upper body trauma, next to a building in the park.

The crime scene is across the street from St Cecelia Interparochial Catholic School on Court Street in Clearwater. Parents and students peered across the street at the crime tape at morning drop off.

Homicide detectives and forensics workers from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and Clearwater Police are investigating.
