RIVERVIEW, FL (WFLA) – They were caught on camera. The video some find too disturbing to watch. Two underage girls duking it out and then at least one parent jumping in.
The video sparks a whole lot of questions. The big one? Who will face charges, if anyone? News Channel 8 is the only station that obtained the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office report of Sunday’s incident.
One of the mothers admitting she punched one of the girls three times. Deputies did not arrest her and passed the case along to the State Attorney’s Office.
Both departments say only time will tell what will happen next. The two girls planned the big-time brawl but then one of their mother’s got in on the action and punched her daughter’s rival three times and pulled her hair.
When deputies responded to the scene, the report says the mother, identified in the report as Wanda Amaro, 36, admitted she did it. But we wanted to know how a mother, as seen in the video, could rough up an underage girl?
Neighbors in the quiet neighborhood are sounding off. We asked neighbor Andy Hillman if the mother should be held accountable, charged or even go to jail.
Hillman said, “Of course.” But we wanted to know why. “She’s a mother,” he said. “Not a minor.”
The video also shows the father in the red shirt appearing to egg the girls on. So we went to their home to give the family their chance to give their side of the story.
No one was home.
While the sheriff’s office telling News Channel 8 that there’s a fine line in the case and that they did their job and the case is now in the prosecutor’s hands.
We spoke with the State Attorney’s Office and they refused to go on camera.
We’ve uncovered that they just got the case from the Sheriff’s office and they tell us they’re going to review it and once that happens, they’ll decide if anyone’s going to be charged and that could take a few weeks.
“So I think they’re committing a crime by contributing to the delinquency of a minor by participating and by allowing them to fight,” says local defense attorney Bryant Camareno.
Meantime, the girl’s father who gets pummeled by the other mom says he’s disappointed in his daughter but never should have been so outnumbered, especially, he says, by parents.
“She agreed to fight the 15-year-old,” said Greg Neal. “She didn’t agree to fight the family.”
It’s also important to keep in mind that the girls agreed to the fact so there’s a possibility that they could face charges.
