DECATUR COUNTY, GA (WFLA) – A plane that left Lakeland and disappeared from radar Monday morning has been located. The plane, a Cessna TurboProp, left at 9:06 a.m. and was headed to Grady County Airport in Cairo, Georgia. It disappeared from radar around 9:30 a.m.
The plane’s wreckage was located around 4 p.m. in Climax, Georgia, Captain Jones from the Thomas County (Georgia) Sheriff’s Office confirmed to News Channel 8.
Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin said two people were killed in the crash. News Channel 8 has confirmed our longtime Eagle 8 pilot Lester Hathcox is one of the victims. The second victim has been identified as well-known Tampa Bay area attorney Gene Odom.
The plane was based at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport, airport director Gene Conrad said.
The Cessna was registered to Legal Airways, LLC, an entity of Odom’s firm, Martinez and Odom Law Group in Brandon.
