TAMPA, Fla (WFLA) — How does a paid 6-week sabbatical sound? Or, tens of thousands of dollars off a new home? These are just a couple of the perks offered to employees of David Weekley Homes.
That’s what landed the home builder in the second spot on Fortune magazine’s list of best places to work for millennials.
“The benefits we offer, beyond the traditional benefits, are very unique,” said David Weekley Homes Bay Area President Shad Tome.
So unique, that the Texas-based company with a growing presence in the Bay area, has a growing list of accolades to brag about. The company is known not only for the quality of the homes it builds, but the culture it has created for its employees.
“You’ll never hear a team member called an employee at David Weekley. Team members are just as important as our customers and it’s clearly evident,” said David Weekley Sales Consultant Matt Davenport.
Employee perks include a 10-to-15 percent discount on David Weekley homes not only for team members, but also their immediate family. That’s a perk that’s potentially worth tens of thousands of dollars.
And that’s not all.
“We have a sabbatical after ten years of employment. You can take six weeks of paid time off and get a $2,000 gift from the company, in addition to your normal pay,” says Tome.
“The theory is to recharge the batteries. Here, the company wants to reward you for your service and say thank you for what you’ve done for us for the 10-plus years.”
There are also perks just to make team members lives easier. Free beverages and snacks at work, take home meals on a regular basis, job sharing options and flexible work hours.
And good news. David Weekley is hiring. Right now, it has about 70 employees in the Bay area but the company is expanding to Sarasota, so that number will only get larger.
