Deadly motorcycle accident in Tampa snarls traffic

Motorcycle passenger died on scene

TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – A deadly accident involving two cars and a motorcycle snarled traffic in north Tampa for hours.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s investigators tell us 30-year-old Kirk Francis was driving a 2004 Lexus westbound on Bearss and attempted to turn northbound on Zambito Road.  A Toyota Corolla driven by 50-year-old Miguel Montaldo struck the Lexus and spun sideways.

The driver of a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle following the Toyota slammed into the sedan after the initial collision. A female passenger on the motorcycle flew off the bike and died at the scene.  Authorities have yet to release the names of the operator and passenger of the motorcycle, but they tell us they are husband and wife.

All westbound lanes of Bearss remained closed for several hours as traffic homicide investigators mapped out the scene and gathered evidence.  Charges in the case are pending. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
