North Port police, firefighters rescue victims from vehicle that crashed into canal

NORTH PORT, Fla. (WFLA) – North Port police officers jumped into a canal Thursday evening to save two people trapped in a vehicle. Police received a call at 6:53 p.m. about a vehicle that crashed into the canal, near the corner of Van Camp Street and Estates Drive.

Officers arrived at the scene within one minute of the call, according to police. The officers jumped in, rescuing one of the victims and beginning CPR. North Port Fire Rescue crews then arrived and pulled the second victim from the vehicle.

The victims were flown to area hospitals. They are both in critical – but stable – condition.
