HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – An Air Force Staff Sergeant from the Patrick Air Force Base was arrested and charged with enticing a Hillsborough minor for sex, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office. The minor was actually an undercover agent.
Staff Sgt. Thomas Allen Vaughn, 33, thought he was communicating with a 14-year-old girl in Melbourne, according to the affidavit in support of the criminal complaint that led to Vaughn’s arrest. The US Air Force Office of Special Investigations worked on this case.
Vaughn met the “teen,” who actually was an undercover Air Force Office of Special Investigations agent, on Craigslist. Vaughn asked the “teen” to send him her “sexy” and “naughty” pictures. He told her that his hobbies included kissing, foreplay, teasing and sex. They communicated for over a week. They exchanged numerous texts and a few phone calls, with a female agent posing as the “teen.” Vaughn asked her what she wore to bed, and told her about his genitalia and his ‘naughty’ thoughts about her, according to the affidavit.
He offered to pick her up at her place in Melbourne and take her out to eat. That’s where Vaughn was arrested.
He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail, but the court case was filed in Hillsborough. The case was brought as a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
