ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — St. Petersburg Police identified and contacted the mother of the little girl who was found wandering around an apartment complex Friday.

Earlier St. Petersburg Police Department asked for the public’s help identifying the girl. A police department spokesperson said that at about 10:45 a.m. on Friday, St. Pete police officers were dispatched to the Osprey Point Apartments located at 1900 55th Avenue South about a child. Officers found a 3 to 4-year-old girl in between buildings 11 and 12 at the complex. She has told officers that her name is “Nae Nae” or “Nazzarri.” Police later identified her as Nah’Jarana Roberson, 3.

SPPD said they were able to notify the girl’s mother, Ayesha Shelby, 33. The child was supposed to be in the care of the relative Shonique Shelby, 23, when her mother was out of town. Shonique works an overnight shift so she fell asleep. The child was supposed to be in bed asleep as well. But she was able to get out of the apartment and wander away. A resident saw her and called the police.

Child Protection investigators have placed Nah’Jarana and her siblings with her grandmother until her mom comes home.
